Reimagine Retirement

Why Embrace Entrepreneurship Instead of Traditional Retirement

We are living longer, healthier lives and the idea of traditional retirement is less and less attractive to people. I believe it’s high time we redefine what retirement means and how to approach the third act of your life.

I meet many amazing people in their 50s and 60s who are not interested in quietly fading away. They want to contribute, to feel useful and to share their wisdom, so they are starting a new businesses instead of going into traditional retirement.

Leaving behind a successful corporate career to spend your days puttering around the garden, golfing and taking cruises is not an attractive option for many.

If you’re over 50 and want to move beyond the status quo, read on!

You Still Have More to Give

I’ve heard a diverse range of inspiring stories from members of “retirement age” who simply aren’t ready to kick their feet up and retire. Do you feel the same?

Maybe you’ve had a successful corporate career in finance or HR. You’ve enjoyed a big, fast career for decades, and don’t want to come to a grinding halt… however, you want a difference pace and to do it your way!

Or maybe you owned a business that was successful and then sold it and are ready for what’s next.

Either way, you feel like it would be wasteful to not share your knowledge and expertise. It may not even be about the money – it’s about the impact you have and the contribution you make.

This is where you build your legacy!

Here are three examples of our amazing clients who choose entrepreneurship over retirement:

Catherine left her 30+ year career in banking and launched a phenomenal business as a coach helping mid-career women take a courageous leap into a bold new life.

Maureen owned a successful business and after selling it, she hated the idea of retirement in the traditional sense. She didn’t want her life to consist of long lunches, golfing, and cruises. So, she's starting a community for those in their third act looking for more than the norm.

She helps bring together people who desire a vibrant, healthy life, filled with adventure, connection, and purpose. Her third act community is based around wellness, travel, experiences, and connections with other like-minded people.

Judy left a busy 30+ year career in HR. She traveled a lot for her job and was constantly doing all the things. When she retired, she couldn’t envision herself just stopping.

Now, Judy helps businesses and individuals thrive through their own reinvention. She coaches her clients to challenge the status quo, embrace mindfulness, and move into empowered action.

These women weren’t ready to live the rest of their lives on the Back Nine; they wanted to create something new in their third act!

There’s a lot of excitement and joy in starting a business later in life - for many reasons.

  • You have the financial freedom to create the business you desire

  • You’ve gained years of experience and knowledge and now have a big message to share

  • You can take on work you love and say no to the rest

  • You can be more flexible with creating your schedule and hours. (So if the golf course is someplace you enjoy, you have time for that too!)

Perhaps the best reason to start a business at this age is that you can structure your business to make the biggest impact possible.

You can help coach and support others who are where you’ve once been, helping them to navigate challenges more quickly. You can take all that you’ve learned and gained and do something with it to change the lives of others - the ripple effect is powerful!

“We have the opportunity to make an impression on others until the day we die, and beyond.”

I know I want to be the kind of person that is always giving back, creating, learning, growing, and changing. I want to keep creating value and increasing my positive impact on the world around me!

So what’s next?

If you’re 50+ and starting to wonder what your next steps could be, let me ask you some questions. (We ask these of our Brand Camp participants to help them get clarity on the impact they want to make in the world.)

  1. What would you want people to say about you when you’re gone?

  2. What impact do you want to have?

  3. What do you want people to say about you at your funeral?

These questions help you decide how you want to show up in both your life and your business. The answers give you clarity on who you want to be, what you want to do, and how you can best position yourself in the marketplace.

You get to decide how to live some of the best years of your life! Whether that’s lounging by the pool, building an empire or both, you get to decide!

If you do want to create your legacy brand and continue making a difference in this world through a new venture, I invite you to join us in our next session of Brand Camp!

Gain clarity and develop powerful and consistent messaging so you and your business can thrive!
