Make IT Happen

I believe that life is what you make of it.

It's not what happens to you – it's how you react and what you learn that matters. It's what you make happen.

Nine years ago I won a motivational speaking competition (I shared my story of strength and determination after a serious car accident at the age of 18) and while I was thrilled about my win, I wasn't exactly sure what it meant for me. Somehow the timing didn't feel right and I let my dream of being a motivational speaker take a back seat to my growing business and motherhood.

But, I knew that I would find my voice and said: "10 years from now, I'll be speaking on stages".

Two years ago I spoke in front of my first audience since that competition. And since then, I've spoken at close to 20 events and to more than 1000 people. Most have been to smaller groups of 30-100 people as workshops or breakout sessions. But I wanted to be on the main stage and I knew I would be.

Most have been to smaller groups of 30-100 people as workshops or breakout sessions. But I wanted to be on the main stage. And I knew I would be.

Last week at the Love Mexico and Beyond conference, I was thrilled to strut my stuff to my walk-up song, then speak on the main stage in front of 600 people. It was an amazing and exhilarating experience from beginning to end and I felt truly in my element.

You might be wondering what's my point?

Well, I am the least patient person I know, maybe with the exception of my 7-year-old son. When I make a decision to do something, I typically want it to happen immediately. However, I've learned that it's important to lay the groundwork for what you want. You need to set goals, then figure out what you need to do to achieve that goal.

So what goals do you have for your business?

Is there a pivot you want to make?

Perhaps something big you want to do?

Or something you were meant to do?

Figure this out and then set out to do what you are meant to do. It might take time, but when you put it out into the universe and work hard, you can make it happen!

Remember to believe in yourself and surround yourself with people who believe in you.

So what's next for me?

Well, I have my first book – Brand Chemistry – coming out in March 2019 and I plan on speaking on many more stages. If you are looking for a keynote speaker for your next conference, I'd love to hear from you!

You can learn more about my speaking here.
